Description

GenPride is seeking a social worker to join GenPride's growing program to provide specialized services for LGBTQ seniors. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior resources in Seattle/King County and an affinity for the LGBTQ midlife and older community. Those with direct experience in a senior center or similar environment are encouraged to apply. This position will provide information, assistance, referrals, outreach, as well as problem-solve, case-manage, develop resources for and provide support to caregivers, facilitate support groups, and assist with housing needs, food insecurity, etc.

Summary: Provides proactive connections and follow-up with people who need access to resources and to build our caregiver support program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide information and referrals, case management, and follow-up on participants requesting resources.
  • Assess caregiver needs among our community and create opportunities for support groups and other means of providing support and resources.
  • Facilitate caregiver support group.
  • Work with participants to identify barriers they may be facing.
  • Prepare both immediate and long-term goals based on a progressive engagement model.
  • Conduct strengths-based assessments as needed to help in goal setting.
  • Build rapport, provide support, and advocate for a diverse range of clients, including individuals who may be actively using substances and/or living with mental/physical health challenges.
  • Participate in verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention in emergent situations and be willing to assist other staff as needed to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Observe/follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of clients and respect their privacy.
  • Act as a liaison for participants when dealing with other agencies, landlords, and/or medical and mental health professionals when needed.
  • Work with representatives of other agencies to provide collaborative resources for seniors.
  • Become familiar with all requirements and procedures for senior center activities.
  • Provide fully-documented reports on all clients using a CRM database
  • Ensure proper tracking of all clients who access and use services.
  • Act as a liaison with State Division of Aging Services, other government agencies, and the public on matters related to services for older residents of the County.
  • Attend agency meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Maintain accurate record of hours worked and turn in timesheets on schedule.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work
  • Two years post graduate professional experience as a social worker in human services field
  • Knowledge of senior services available in King County
  • Facilitation skills for caregiver support group and similar groups
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including people of color and other culturally diverse populations
  • Experience entering/maintaining data in Salesforce or similar CRM database preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of unique challenges and issues faced by LGBTQ older adults

  • Pay Range: $58,240 - $62,400 DOE
